Biographie

Dr. Peter Zahi Tawil started out his college career in Mechanical Engineering at McGill University in Montreal. He then pursued his studies in Dentistry at the Université de Montréal where he received his DMD in 2004. During his time in dental school, he co-founded Montreal’s Homeless Street Youth Dental Clinic, for which his team was rewarded the ADEA Quest for Excellence in Dental Education Award. In 2004 he continued his studies at the University of Rochester where he completed his degree in Advanced Education in General Dentistry. In 2008 he completed his specialty training in Endodontics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, graduating with a Masters in Endodontics.

With his active involvement in Endodontic research, Dr. Tawil has several publications and received several research grants and awards. Furthermore, he enjoys serving as a mentor for several Endodontic Graduate research projects.

After completing his studies in Chapel Hill, Dr. Tawil worked as a specialist in private practice for several years in Québec and in North Carolina. While in private practice he served as a part-time faculty at multiple Universities and was a quality assessment audit officer for the Quebec Dental Board and as an independent consultant. Dr. Tawil serves as a speaker for the American Association of Endodontists and has lectured nationally and internationally. He currently teaches at the University North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he serves as the Director of the DDS Endodontics Curriculum. He volunteers in Jamaica with the 1000 Smiles Dental Project, serves as a mentor for the College of Diplomates of the American Board of Endodontics and as an examiner for the Royal College of Dentists of Canada.

He is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Dental Association, the TarHeel Endodontic Association, the American Association of Endodontists, the Royal College of Dentists of Canada and the American Board of Endodontics.

  • <p>La microchirurgie endodontique est souvent considérée comme la dernière possibilité de conserver la dent sur l’arcade. Cette option thérapeutique a énormément progressé durant les 25 dernières années et constitue un choix fiable et prévisible pour peu que les moyens diagnostiques et thérapeutiques soient conformes aux données acquises de la science. Malgré les progrès récents, cet acte reste relativement confidentiel car d’une part il nécessite un plateau technique spécifique (inserts ultra-sonores, aides optiques) et d’autre part il demande une double compétence chirurgicale et endodontique.</p><p>L’objectif de ce congrès est de donner les bases de la microchirurgie endodontique (indication, prise de décision, les différentes étapes cliniques). Comme tous les ans, une MasterClass est proposée et sera donnée cette fois-ci par le Dr Peter Tawil (University North Caroline, USA). Le thème abordé concerne les phénomènes cicatriciels en rapport avec la chirurgie endodontique basé sur les publications scientifiques les plus récentes.<br><br></p><p>Des travaux pratiques exclusivement proposés par la SFE auront lieu en précours.<br><br></p><p>Des experts de la chirurgie endodontique, Docteur Bertrand Khayat (Paris), Docteur Guillaume Jouanny (Paris), Professeur Thomas Von Arx (Bern, Switzerland) et le docteur Peter Tawil, viendront partager avec vous leur expérience de la chirurgie endodontique.</p><p>Comme tous les ans une séance interactive et la remise du prix Paul Calas sera effectuée lors du congrès.<br></p>
